Ambulance Accident
Below are photos from our ambulance accident, which occurred on November 29, 2000 in Houtzdale. We were transporting an 18 year old male, in cardiac arrest. The state police maintain the accident happened when driver Elwood Queen Sr. suffered a heart attack.
We lost Elwood after that accident, and the ambulance has not been the same since. EMT Bruce Braniff, EMT Terry Whetstone and Paramedic Chris Gardner received minor injuries in the crash.
Houtzdale Fire Co., Madera Fire Co., Houtzdale/Ramey Emergency Medical Services and Moshannon Valley Emergency Medical Services of Philipsburg responded to the scene, along with the state police.
The ambulance hit a utility pole, then a stone wall, and flipped two and a half times, ending up on the roof.
A special thanks goes out to everyone who helped out that morning, at 3:30 a.m., is extended, along with a thanks to everyone who helped afterwards, including the dispatchers at Clearfield County Control. Andrea Miles was not working that night, but she was at the hospital for support the whole time. Incidentally, Andrea is a member of Irvona Fire and EMS.
Those others who helped include: Madera and Mahaffey Ambulance Services, Glendale QRS and Patton EMS. Plus, those I may have missed, thank you.
Below are the pictures, but at this time they can't be enlarged when clicked up. I'm trying to correct that.
